Is it getting any better? I am still practicing in apature priority. I just don't get the full triangle of manual yet. I think the ones today are a little grainy, but I think that is the high ISO and lowish light. These are of sleeping baby girl.

Practicing in Apature priority:

I took the kids and the Camera to Red Rock Canyon yesterday. They went with the intent of being on a field trip. I went with the intent to practice apature priority.

The photo with the little boy isn't as clear, but he is such a cutle little boy :)

Manual

I've been practicing my attempts at the manual setting. This is a big step. LOL. I usually just do one of the fully auto settings. Here are a couple of my feeble attempts. I couldn't get my f/stop to change. I don't know what was up. I'll figure it out.

Wetlands

Today we went on a field trip to the wetlands.
The pixilating is not in my originals. I am not sure why I am having such a hard time with that when posting them here.

7 month photos

and not a smile in the bunch. Here are a couple from our photo session today. We borrowed the basket and tutu from Tammy :) Thanks Tammy.

Since this is my "I'm learning" blog. I'll do a bit of critque. First...These were my favorites in MONTHS. I was so happy to finally get some that I just loved. A few had some real hot spots and there are a few trees growing out of my baby's head. I wasn't very happy with my composition and crops, something I usually think I am very good at.

But...I am still happy with these.

The noise in the top photo isn't there in the full size photo. Not sure why it is so pixilated in this one.

Sometimes we get a gift. Today I got a gift. It is the dandelion. I also got bit by something (mosquito, spider) trying to get the photo. The other photo is my girls blessing gowns.

Did I ever mention how much I love flowers? I am also using photography as an outlet for my miscarriage. I don't know if it is helping or not. I'm leaning towards not yet.

I need to do Zoe's 7 month photos. I am thinking of asking Tammy if I can borrow a tutu and a basket. I am out of ideas for things for Zoe to wear! LOL.

Look what I found! My parents have this beautiful flower garden. In the spring it grows Daffodils and Tulips. In late spring the Daisies come. They should be long gone by now. But I found this one little daisy.

I was told I needed to add a few more photos. Neither of these are recent. The newbie feet is one of my favorite photos. I think it is SOOC. The other one, I am not so sure I love it. It was taken a few weeks ago.

What a photo doesn't capture.

Sometimes I hold miss Z. I am just amazed at her. I want to capture all of it. I have some amazing and beautiful photos of her. Some I took, some taken by Tammy

But then there is so much more. So much to this baby than a photo. I want to capture her squishiness, the softness of her sking, the way she smells. I want to capture the way she feels in my arms. I want to capture the way she moves and how she smells when she is crying. The little noises. I want to capture her very essence. But a photo can never do that. Even the best photo will never do that.

Getting Frusrated.

I did Zoe's 6 month photos yesterday...well, we will do a re-shoot. I wasn't really happy with any of them. There were some that were cute,but just not what I wanted. There is just something I'm not happy with them about. BTW...mobility of baby brings and entire new dimension!

I did get one of Isaac. Is it okay? I'm lacking confidence today.

Next holiday remember the tripod. Photos of fireworks will come out much better with either a tripod or a steady hand.

This is the photo that I was discussing in my previous post. I like the photo. It tells of boyhood...of my son. But I see so much that is wrong with the photo too. I bet I would like it in Black and white too. I did a simple conversion though and the head/shoulders/back are so hot that it didn't work as well as it otherwise would have.

Seeing the imperfections...the flaws.

I look at my photos and I see mistakes, imprefections, flaws, etc. It is very frustrating. I asked W about this. Does he see that in his photos "No, and you shouldn't either." I showed him a photo of N. I said "See, it is overexposed, a bit flat, and is hot all over the head shoulders, and back". W replied "But it is a photo of N and that is all that matters". EXCEPT...I want a GOOD photo of N. So...W didn't unsderstand. He didn't get it. He knows a lot more about photography than I do. But obviously it isn't the same to him. LOL.

I am getting frustrated though. I crop off fingers here and there, the photo is soft, or just out of focus, etc. It is frustrating. They never look 'just right'. Not how I want them too look.

4 month photos

We took Z's 4 month photos today. By the time I take those 5 month photos, I hope to have a new camera :) I had a lot of blue in some of them. Just cooler than I like. I chopped the arms off in one of my otherwise favorites. Here are a couple of photos. They are of Z, 'I', and both of them.

Happy Dance!

My Camera has been ordered. Should be here in about 30 days! YEAH!!! I am very excited. A new Camera. We ordered the Nikon D50!

Well, I am thinking about getting the camera sooner and going with just the one lense. I can purchase the other lense. Why? Cause they raised the points on it again. And if I get it now, I can use it and save up for the other lense.

In the meantime....we have been doing some hiking. I try and go a few times a week. Last week we only went once though. The photo is of 'I'. He likes to go. We saw a lizard on the last hike. That was fun.

The Photo was only edited in Picasa...so nothing fancy.

Photo shop and photography

To become a good photographer, I am going to need to learn photoshop. I find photoshop so intimidating. Ugh. But it makes such a huge difference in photos.

I've been working in photo shop on eyes. I've continued practicing the colors. Isaac's eyes sparkle regardless.

First sunflowers of the season

We went hiking yesterday. Just off the trail were some sunflowers.
I took this opportunity to do some color correction practice in photo shop.

The first image is 'before' and the 2nd image is 'after'

Film, Photoshop, and more

I got batteries and film for my film camera. I've taken a few photos. Not many. We'll see. I won't post those as I have no patience to scan them in...LOL. But it is fun using that camera again. Isaac (4) took a picture and then said to me "can I see it now". He is being raised in a digital world. He can see it after it is developed.

I finally installed photoshop elements. I have Scott Kelby's book for it. I can start playing now.

We have narrowed it down to getting a D50 (in the next couple weeks) or a D70s (in an unknown time frame). In reading, researching, etc. I see no advantages to waiting for the D70s so it will likely be a D50 and that means...soon! YEAH! I am so excited, especially after using my N70 again.

Nicolas (6) thinks it is unfair that I already have 2 cameras and all the children are sharing 1 digitial camera. We may invest in a digital point and shoot for him. He has such an interest.

Oh...I HAVE an SLR camera. Now the question is...do I want to invest in new batteries + film + processing. We are still planning on saving for the dSLR. We are well on our way with that. But....should I go buy some film +battiers+processing to play with while I wait? Or save the money and make do/play with my coolpix?

dSLR cameras.

I mentioned ...we are in the market :) Very excited about this. I figured out how we suddenly had enough money to start looking for one. Marriot points. W travels for work every week. Stays at marriot hotels if he can. He says the consistency is good as far as quality, cleanliness, customer service, etc. So we have years worth o f Marriot points saved. I get to use his points for my dSLR. Might as well use some of the benefits of his travelling.

We are now "in the market' for a dSLR :) I am so excited. I am trying to figure out which one we want. I've always been a Nikon girl. But the Canon Rebel seems to have some price advantages + everyone I know (IRL) uses the Canon Rebel. Not sure if that should play into my decision or not.

On another note here: My computer is out of memory. *ugh* But W will be home tonight to free up memory and install Photoshop Elements for me.

I've been working on focus. I liked this photo...yes it is blown. yes there are hotspots all over. Sleeping baby I did not want to move....so I got a setting sun through a west window as my light source...LOL.

The sleeping baby is the top photo... same light issues.

Here are some examples. I am evidently not very good at resizing for the web. The one was not meant to be so small.

2nd Photo....Look at that great focus on the laundry behind baby girl. Ah...it is perfect...except who wants a photo of a pile of laundry when you can have a photo of a beautiful baby girl.
1st Photo is more what I am looking for. A photo of baby with laundry pile out of focus in the background. Yes, I am aware...moving the pile of laundry would have been a better choice. I liked her smile in this one.

Focus

I have a lot o f in focus back grounds and out of focus baby. Nice sharp tree there in the back...very soft eyes on baby's face.

I have just a very few that I have nice sharp baby and blurry background.

My lense is auto focus only and I am not sure how to correct this problem.
